A Comprehensive Solution for an Active Environment

Location

Garden City, NY

Clients

Nassau Community College

Project Cost

$9.5 million

Overview

With the goal of providing a single contiguous “one-stop” center for student services, Nassau Community College relocated several administrative departments to a new Plaza Level location in the administrative tower building. A new 30,000 sf space designed by LiRo, created by enclosing an open terrace, houses offices for the Bursar, Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Financial Affairs, Academic Advisement, and Educational Advisement departments.

About the Project

LiRo-Hill provided full architectural and engineering services for the 30,000 sf renovation to Nassau Community College’s Student Services Center. The mechanical design featured two new semicustom air handling units, new VAV reheat and perimeter heating systems, and new chilled water and hot water pumps. Key design challenges included sharing HVAC systems with adjacent existing spaces, interfacing with the central campus hydronic systems, and coordinating exposed ductwork with other services in a tight ceiling. In addition to performing the engineering design work, LiRo-Hill performed construction administration services. The project was opened to the public in the summer of 2016.

Outcome

The Nassau Community College Student Services Center was featured in American School and University Magazine for Outstanding Design, August 2016.
