About the Project

Recent critical projects implemented under this program have included, the restructuring of six schools to provide labs in 70 days, approximate construction value $60 million. The extensive Sandy Recovery and Response Program at over 30 schools; over 30 light fixtures replacements and energy upgrade projects; the expedited construction for the Eagle Academy Queens; the construction of 15 new Universal Pre-Kindergartens; the new boiler plant at Metropolitan High School; installation of new chillers at PS-198 Queens; athletic field renovations at Beach Channel High School; new Health Clinic; and playground reconstruction. LiRo provided emergency response services at JFK High School for a gas explosion and stabilized the school for the September opening in 12 days. An additional emergency response was providing services for an electrical explosion at Washington Irving High School, by replacing the entire electrical system including the primary and secondary feeders. Other urgent needs have entailed major interior renovations, exterior rehabilitation, emergency stabilization, electrical, fire alarm and heating plant upgrades, installations of temporary boilers, and sitework including the installation of sidewalk sheds and safety netting.

Outcome

The wide range of projects implemented under this program have included new construction, restorations, and rehabilitations to immediately address deteriorating conditions and potentially hazardous environments encountered at schools throughout the five boroughs. LiRo has successfully completed these assignments in a highly expedited manner, on or under budget, without impact to school operations and in time for school openings. LiRo personnel have been available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, to respond to the NYCSCA’s needs. Upon contact from an authorized SCA representative, we immediately mobilize personnel and meet on-site with the SCA and school facility staff, assess conditions, develop, and implement construction strategies to address particular project needs.
