LiRo Appoints Peter Koklanos to Senior Vice President Leading Civil/ Structural Engineering Group

(Syosset, NY, December 1, 2021) The LiRo Group, (LiRo), a national, multidisciplinary project and construction management, engineering, architecture, and technology firm, is proud to announce that Panagiotis (Peter) Koklanos, PE, SE, LEED AP BD+C has been appointed Senior Vice President leading our Civil/ Structural Engineering Group.

Mr. Koklanos is a Professional Civil and Structural Engineer licensed in 8 states with more than 15 years of design experience on large and complex multi-disciplinary projects in both the public and private sectors. Mr. Koklanos’ technical specialties include: conventional design of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood/ timber, aluminum and glass structures, deep pile foundations, support of excavation, renovation of historic/ landmarked buildings, mixed-use podium structures, design and retrofit of piers, wharves and other waterfront facilities, coastal resiliency and floodproofing design, façade engineering, public park restoration projects, code compliance reviews, sustainability consulting, post-disaster emergency response, blast engineering, and materials testing.

A proven leader in the construction industry, Mr. Koklanos has extensive experience on various major site development, commercial, healthcare, industrial, and infrastructure projects throughout the northeast region of the United States.  He has performed Structural, Civil, Marine Engineering and/ or Code Review Services on many significant projects including : the Major Renovation of the United Nations Headquarters Complex; Expansion of the NYC Metropolitan Opera House;  the Pier 57 “SuperPier” Renovation for Google in NYC; Beaches Restoration after Superstorm Sandy for NYC Parks; the Jacob Javits Convention Center Expansion; the Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods Casino; the Redevelopment of Pier 42 for NYC Parks/ NYCEDC; Port of Albany Maritime Warehouse & Roadway/ Drainage Improvements; the Brooklyn Botanic Garden – South Garden Renovation; Portside at East Pier – Buildings 5 & 6 in East Boston, MA; and the Lenox – a 17 story Mixed Use Residential Tower in Stamford, CT.

In addition, Mr. Koklanos is an active member and participant in NYC DOB’s Structural Committees for the forthcoming update to the Building Code and a brand-new Existing Building Code. He has authored and/or co-authored various white papers on Disaster Resilience and Sustainability (ASCE SEI, 2014), Blast Mitigation of Unreinforced Masonry Walls (ASCE Structures Congress, 2012), and the LEED Platinum Liberty Island Retail Pavilion (Modern Steel Construction & Structure Magazine, 2011). Mr. Koklanos was also a contributing lecturer in the continuing education course: “Green Retrofit: The Fundamentals of Gut Renovation”, at The Cooper Union Institute and facilitated a seminar on “Disaster Resiliency for Sustainable Deign” at Pratt Institute.

Mr. Koklanos holds a Master of Science in Structural Engineering and Geomechanics from Stanford University, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University.
