LIRR’s Recently Completed $136 Million Mid-Suffolk Yard Allows a 50% Increase to Morning Rush-Hour Service on its Main Line Branch

The recently completed construction of the LIRR’s $136 million Mid-Suffolk Yard allows a 50% increase to morning rush-hour service on its Main Line Branch. The project features 22 storage tracks — each capable of fitting a 12-car train set, doubles the train capacity of the LIRR’s former Ronkonkoma Yard and is expected to allow the railroad to significantly increase train service on Long Island after completion of the East Side Access project.
