Last week, the MTA celebrated the opening of its new Railcar Acceptance and Testing Facility, the first of its kind. Delivered on time and $5.5 million under budget, this state-of-the-art complex is where all new subway cars go for testing before entering service. The facility will speed up the processing and testing of new subway cars, work locomotives, and other rolling stock, helping them reach riders faster. This opening comes as the MTA prepares for its largest delivery of new rail cars in decades. The project was completed within its three-year schedule using a streamlined design-build approach.
